New Independent Feature Film in Production

We have ‘broken ground’ on production of our micro-budget independent feature, The Last Ballad of Larimore. After a paranoid man whose wife recently left him finds a disposable 35mm camera in the sand on a beach, his drinking buddy from the local bar convinces him to get the film developed, which opens up an unsolved mystery that further complicates his already shaken life, as he navigates society during what he perceives to be the start of World War III and “the end of days.’

Murder Under the Friday Night Lights - Season 3

Season 3 of Murder Under the Friday Night Lights now airing on Investigation Discovery and MAX. D.J. Dierker worked as Director of Photography on Episode 4, “Twisted Teammate,” a compelling story that took place in Greeley, Colorado in 2006.; “The stabbing of a star punter coming home from class devastates the University of Northern Colorado football team. What seems like a random tragedy unfolds as a calculated take-down after the investigation exposes jealousy within the team.”

Battle on the Mountain Premiers on HGTV and MAX

Last summer, D.J. Dierker had a lovely time in Breckenridge, Colorado, shooting the behind the scenes (BTS) making of the brand new HGTV design competition show, Battle on the Mountain, starring HGTV personalities, Rico León, Kim Myles and Kim Wolfe. The BTS was shot on a Sony FX9 with a Sony FE PZ 28-135mm F4 OSS G Lens for Sony E mount.

Single Camera Work

Every now and again, a television network, production company, showrunner, or streaming platform sends us into the field with one camera to capture an entire unscripted scene. In these situations it’s imperative that the camera operator has a solid understanding of how a scene is edited together in post production. This involves intuitively directing the on-camera talent through the narrative process, being agile in capturing multiple angles without excessively breaking up the talent performances, and subsequently going back for cutaways so that the editor has plenty of footage to work with in order to complete the scene. A GoPro or two is quite helpful in these situations. Here is a sample of some single camera work by D.J. Dierker, that would have ideally been shot with a multi-cam crew but that has been effectively captured via “one man band.”

Pawn Stars Do America: Denver Gold Rush

Last summer I had the opportunity to work as a camera operator on the History Channel’s, Pawn Stars Do America (a spinoff of the original Pawn Stars.) Check out this scene we shot in Denver, of a local woman pawning off her 1941 Plymouth Pickup Truck (of which 6,073 were built) to the series regulars and father and son duo, Rick and Corey Harrison. The seller and Rick were able to agree on a final selling price of $22,000 after the seller originally asked for $26K. Not too shabby.
